1968 Dodge Charger Restomod With 470-HP Sells For $163,000

The 1968 Dodge Charger is one of the GOAT muscle cars.

Someone is starting their month of March with a new set of wheels, a 1968 Dodge Charger Restomod. The professionally built, old-made new muscle car from the 1960s recently sold on Bring a Trailer. The online auction ended on February 28, with the virtual hammer dropping on a final bid of $163,000. Whether that is a fair price or not is up to the individual. However, before passing judgment, let’s see what has been done to this 54-year-old muscle car.

In 1968, Dodge offered multiple engine options for the Charger, like the famously known 440 and 426 Hemi V8s. However, this restomod example ditched the vintage carburetor engines in favor of a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 donated from a 2014 Dodge Challenger. According to the Bring a Trailer listing, this modern engine is rated 470-hp. Managing the power and torque is a six-speed manual Tremec transmission, with a pistol-grip shifter and a 3:73 positraction rear axle. Additional performance parts include a Wilwood hydraulic clutch assembly and disc brakes, an aluminum radiator with electric fans, and carbon-fiber engine covers. Moreover, the 1968 Dodge Charger restomod has been fitted with a Magnum Force front subframe and a rear four-link suspension with coil-overs to handle its 21st-century performance.

The interior specs on this car include modern necessities like air conditioning and lumbar support. Cosmetically, the 1968 Dodge Charger restomod keeps it subtle. The car looks relatively stock wearing high-gloss Jet Black paint with matte black vinyl tail stripes. A set of 20-inch wheels and quad-tipped exhaust are the only clues that there is more to this car than meets the eye. With spring just over the horizon, we expect this beautifully restored Mopar will get a chance to add some miles to its 1,500-mile odometer.
