Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has partnered with Nintendo to incorporate everyone’s favorite plumber— beloved character Mario— into an interactive digital experience. This TAG Heuer x Super Mario Connected Watch Limited Edition mashup features “the intrepid iconic hero” Mario in various animations on the watch face, tied in with the wearer’s daily activity. The digital interface encourages wearers to keep moving to unlock various features on the watch’s dial. TAG Heuer says the following about the interactive digital design: “The watch’s dial will become livelier and more animated the more the wearer is active thanks to the gamification rewards system.”
Mario will also greet the wearer each day with a salute and initiate various animations once the wearer reaches specific step targets each day, such as when they reach 25, 50, 75, and 100% of their target steps. The animations will be familiar to gamers and Mario fans as they will include features like the Goal Pole, Super Star, Pipe, and the Super Mushroom. Even when used as just a regular watch and not a motivation to get moving, the TAG Heuer x Super Mario Connected Watch Limited Edition will feature four custom watch dials to choose from. All four are currently exclusive to this version and integrate Mario into familiar Tag Heuer watch faces. For example, there are two versions of the Heuer 02 face, which use colors taken from Mario’s cap, or from his overalls.
The smartwatch’s case and strap have been given a Mario makeover too. There is a choice of a red and black leather strap or a red perforated rubber strap, each held together with a steel clasp featuring Mario’s ‘M’ logo. The lacquered bezel has a subtle red gradient finish and has a mushroom, pipe, and star icon at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. The lacquered pushers also have a red stripe, and the crown features Mario’s ‘M’ logo as well. Inscribed on the case back are the words, ‘Tag Heuer X Super Mario Limited Edition,’ and the whole package is presented in a beautiful red travel case.
