Lamborghini flagships have always found motivation from naturally aspirated V12s since the Miura. They stobbornly stuck to this formula while the competition moved on to more technologically advanced — or as some may say clinical — powertrains, involving forced induction and/or semi-electrification. Lamborghini is still sticking to this formula for their latest flagship, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, but the sad news is that this may be the very last naturally-aspirated flagship V12 Lamborghini.

Despite the unfortunate news, the Aventador SVJ still has a lot to celebrate. The most potent version of the Aventador comes equipped with a V12 that produces 770-hp and 531 lb-ft of pure aggression. The V12 monster will blitz to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, hit 128 mph in 8.6 seconds, and propel itself to a top speed of 216 mph before running out of steam.

Aerodynamic upgrades over the standard Aventador include Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva that increases the car’s downforce while reducing drag. Active flaps front and rear aid in improving the vehicle’s drag coefficient.

With only 900 units planned for production starting at an astronomical price of $517,770, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is sure to be a rare car. It’s also one hell of a way to mark the end of a highly celebrated era in Lamborghini’s long and illustrious history with naturally-aspirated V12 engines.
