It comes as no surprise that automakers are getting into the e-bike craze and releasing their own licensed models. Porsche has unveiled its own line of e-bikes that offers the best of two worlds for urban and all-terrain riders. These German e-bikes are called the Porsche e-Bike Cross and e-Bike Sport. According to Porsche, much of the e-Bike Cross and Sport design was inspired by its latest sports sedan EV – the Porsche Taycan. The Porsche e-Bike Cross is designed to be the electric sports bicycle for everyday life. The e-Bike Cross uses a full-suspension carbon frame to house the latest Shimano EP8 motor capable of pushing the bike up to 15 mph. Managing the speed is a Shimano electronic gear shifting system, and stopping power comes from a set of Magura high-performance brakes with controls integrated on the handlebars. The bike’s upside-down suspension fork is also Magura with a Fox rear shock to help ensure a smooth, balanced ride on the street.
At the other end is the Porsche e-Bike Cross, the electric bike built for the road less traveled. It features the new EF8 Shimano motor with Magura MT Trail high-performance brakes with larger heat-resistant discs. Gearing is done through a Shimano XT 12-fold shifting system for fast gear changes to keep up with the rider’s demands during all-terrain riding. Riders can adjust the e-Bike Cross hydraulic seat by Crankbrothers Highline to their preference. Both Porsche e-bikes will become available in spring 2021 and are offered in three sizes. Porsche even designed a low-bearing rear-carrier to transport e-bikes on the back of the new Taycan.
