Field photographers and videographers alike will be impressed with the new Panasonic Lumix GH6 — both in terms of its looks and the pictures and videos it produces. The company’s flagship camera has been updated with a 25.2-megapixel sensor, ISOs that go down to 100, and faster 4K and anamorphic video recording. That means better images in all lighting, regardless of whether the user is taking still photos or video recordings. While the new Panasonic Lumix GH6 is one of the most powerful video cameras around, it does not include phase-detect autofocus. Panasonic has explained why the new camera has instead stuck with older AF technology. Panasonic USA’s Business Development Manager Matt Frazer said he was “well aware it isn’t the direction that people were hoping that we would go” regarding the camera’s autofocus, but that “it just wasn’t possible for us to get a modification for phase-based autofocus” on the camera’s new sensor.

The Panasonic Lumix GH6 comes in a package that will go anywhere and performs well in all conditions. A rugged body ensures high durability when the camera is bumped on rocks or trees, while a combination of standard IBIS image stabilization and a High-Resolution mode makes it possible to take clear shots even if on a boat. A trio of super-fast autofocus modes ensures that those stabilized shots can be taken the moment a bird takes off, a whale breaches or an animal chases its prey. Of course, landscape shots can also be taken at the most opportune moment. The mirrorless camera will perform well in traditional photography and film studios, but it will produce images that truly stand out when taking photos.
