Mirrorless cameras offer versatility that DSLR models just can’t match. Relying on an electronic viewfinder allows mirrorless cameras to be more compact than the alternatives and to be optimal for video. Designing a camera that gets the most of those aspects is no easy task. As big of a name as Nikon is, it didn’t release its first mirrorless camera until 2019. Now, the Nikon Z5 follows in the footsteps of the Z6 and Z7 as a more affordable option. The electronic viewfinder of the mirrorless Z5 uses a 24.3-megapixel CMOS sensor that takes crystal clear pictures and captures vivid 4K video at 30 fps.

Like its alternatives, this mirrorless camera harnesses the power of the Nikon Z mount system. The large 55mm inner diameter of the mount combines with a short flange focal distance of 16mm to take in more light from even the most compact lenses. That mount system lets photographers equip the Nikon Z5 with the entire range of NIKKOR Z lenses. The Nikon EXPEED 6 image processing system lays inside the water-tight body of the Z5 along with that versatile mount to power its performance. That central component makes the Z5’s autofocus, distortion control, and other key features possible to allow this mirrorless camera to achieve optimal image clarity.
