Get ready for the most entertainingly self-aware, over-the-top 80’s action comedy made for the 21st century. What started off as a Kickstarter campaign by a relatively unknown David Sandberg back in 2013 is now a full fledged 30 minute short that has been featured in Cannes and is also in the early stages of being developed into a feature length film. On top of the film development, David Hasselhoff – yes, the Hoff – has graced his presence with a lead track for the short film.
The over-the-top action and ironically “cheesy” dialogue made by Sandberg, originally working under the equally awesome pseudonym Laser Unicorns, is jam packed with insane action, cringe worthy dialogue, and so many 80’s references that your mind will implode. What’s interesting is that although none of the story seems to make sense, almost as if it was written by a group of college students after over indulging on their late night munchies run, it strikes a very satisfying chord. We’d never dreamt that seeing kung fu masters, nazis, dinosaurs, vikings, or giant pecks could not only feel right but somehow end up making sense.
The short film might possibly be the best film created in 2015 and we can’t wait until we find out more about the feature length film and merchandises that will follow.
