J.Crew’s most interesting collaborations work when the guest designer is allowed to disturb the catalog rather than decorate it. The second J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta collection expands a February knitwear experiment into 27 fall pieces, giving the New York label room to reinterpret familiar sweaters, denim, shirting, outerwear, and accessories.

The partnership began earlier this year with Eckhaus Latta’s take on J.Crew’s Rollneck sweater. The response was strong enough to turn the one-off project into a broader wardrobe, including men’s pieces alongside womenswear and accessories. The design language remains grounded in recognizable J.Crew staples, but proportions, texture, layering, and unexpected accessories such as a knit balaclava and brushed-cashmere bandana push them away from straightforward prep.

That balance is what makes the collaboration relevant. Founded by Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, Eckhaus Latta built its reputation on experimental construction, unusual materials, and a deliberately art-school approach to American clothing. J.Crew contributes the opposite: decades of accessible sportswear, chinos, oxford shirts, and knitwear. The collection works in the friction between those two identities rather than pretending they are naturally identical.
For J.Crew, it continues a strategy of using smaller design-led labels to reframe familiar wardrobe pieces; IMBOLDN has previously covered the retailer’s Diemme Roccia Vet collaboration.
The limited-edition collection launches September 15 at 10 a.m. ET through J.Crew. Pricing varies by piece.
