The Beaufort turns Apple Green while the Barn Jacket adopts Black Watch tartan in a two-way exchange of British and American classics.

Two heritage jackets rarely meet on equal terms; one usually becomes a canvas for the other brand. The Barbour x J.Crew Beaufort and Barbour x J.Crew Barn Jacket take a more balanced route, with each label reworking the other’s 1980s staple rather than simply adding a logo.

J.Crew pushes the 1983 Beaufort into vivid Apple Green, backed by a hunter-green corduroy collar, tan-and-green tartan lining, co-branded label, and apple enamel pin. Barbour answers with the 1986 Barn Jacket in dark Black Watch tartan, pairing the pattern with a cognac corduroy collar, cotton lining, interior co-branding, and spaniel pin. The opposing treatments are unusually clear: American prep makes the British field jacket brighter, while English countrywear makes the American work coat more formal.

Both are cut from four-ounce waxed cotton suited to transitional weather and offered in unisex sizing. The lighter shell is designed to soften and develop character with wear without turning either silhouette into heavy cold-weather gear. Within the broader language of waxed outerwear, details such as corduroy, tartan, relaxed proportions, and practical pockets do more work than overt branding.

Both limited-edition jackets are available from J.Crew. The Black Watch Barn Jacket is $480, while the Apple Green Beaufort is $495; each uses men’s sizing with a relaxed unisex fit.
