GMC unveiled the full scope of its new EarthCruiser Upfit for the Hummer EV. This came about working with Oregon-based EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles to create this premium pop-up roof tent. In keeping with the massively overweight EV truck’s sense of grandeur, this truck bed camping accessory is anything but rugged.
The EarthCruiser Upfit is installed to the truck’s five-foot bed with housing constructed from carbon fiber. The structure’s dimensions measure 217 inches long and overlap the Hummer EV’s crew cab roof. With the camper’s roof up, it stands 117 inches tall, providing up to 80 inches of interior standing room. The dropped top height is lowered to 90 inches when on the move.
Interior amenities in the GMC Hummer EV EarthCruiser include a fridge, sink, stovetop, and water heater. In addition to a 7-inch touchscreen control panel that manages the solar panels on the roof, it powers a 6-kWh electrical system that claims to provide power for up to 7 days. People enjoying the great outdoors in the Hummer EV EarthCruiser won’t be “roughing it” as this tent acts more like an electric camper.
Considering the GMC Hummer EV tips the scales at over 9,000 pounds, we’re sure this outdoor accessory will add even more weight and potentially affect the EV truck’s EPA-estimated 329 miles of range, in addition to adding to the truck’s already six-figure average cost.
