Glenfiddich, one of Scotland’s most renowned whisky distilleries, has announced the launch of its latest Grand Series release, the Grand Yozakura. This single-malt Scotch whisky is a tribute to Japanese culture, inspired by the country’s cherry blossom season, and is made using ex-Awamori casks. “We are always looking to experiment with new finishes, so when the chance arose to acquire rare ex-Awamori casks, we saw an opportunity to push the boundaries and experiment with this highly unusual spirit,” said Glenfiddich’s malt master Brian Kinsman.
Awamori is Japan’s oldest distilled alcoholic spirit, made from long-grain indica rice and stored in clay pots. The Grand Yozakura is aged for 29 years, with six months in ex-Awamori casks. This unique aging process adds a herbal flavor to the traditional Scottish whisky taste, making it a one-of-a-kind blend.
To pay homage to Japan’s whisky industry’s 100th anniversary, Glenfiddich commissioned Japanese artist June to create an illustration for the Grand Yozakura. This stunning artwork depicts the beauty of cherry blossoms and the essence of Japanese culture. The Grand Yozakura is a limited edition release and part of Glenfiddich’s Grand Series, which includes several rare and unique whiskies. Whisky enthusiasts and collectors worldwide will undoubtedly clamor to get their hands on this rare and exceptional blend.
Glenfiddich has always been a trailblazer in the whisky industry, constantly experimenting with different finishes and techniques. The Grand Yozakura is yet another example of its commitment to innovation and paying tribute to cultures worldwide. This blend will undoubtedly stand out among Glenfiddich’s impressive repertoire of whiskies.
