Charles and Ray Eames developed their innovative plywood molding technique at just the right time. Operating throughout the “radio days” of the 1940s, their factory produced countless cabinets for retail radio receivers. By 1952, various electronics manufacturers had sold approximately 200,000 radios with Eames cabinets to consumers around the world.
A particular 1946 design, however, never went into production. Despite the best efforts of Charles and Ray, radio manufacturers simply didn’t take to the slightly more austere and “technical” look of this unique model.
Now, Vitra is proud to join with the Eames Office to create just 999 units of this compact Charles and Ray favorite. Equipped with state-of-the-art modern technology from REVO, the Eames Radio is certainly built to sound great. But the elegant Eames molded walnut cabinet is truly the star of the show here.
