The first new turntable in Technics’ iconic SL-1200 line in more than 10 years, the SL-1200MK7 Turntable promises to unite the world of the performing DJ with the world of the discerning audiophile like no turntable that came before it.

Anyone who has attempted a record scratch on a typical home turntable should understand why professional DJs use only direct drive turntables. Unlike the belt-driven motors that power most consumer turntables, direct drive motors attach directly to the turntable’s rotating platter to eliminate the irregular rotating movements known as “cogging.” Contentious audiophiles, by contrast, have gravitated toward belt-driven systems that eliminate sound-interrupting vibrations by isolating the motor from the platter.

Well, although it employs a coreless direct drive motor, the SL-1200MK7 Turntable builds upon the successes of 2008’s SL-1200MK6-K and SL-1200MK6-S turntables to deliver outstanding sound quality while providing DJs with a wealth of scratching options.
