Canon USA recently introduced the Canon RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens for stereoscopic 3D virtual reality (VR) capture. Canon says the EOS VR System, combined with the new virtual reality lens, will streamline VR production. The company’s goal is to make immersive storytelling more accessible for all. The Canon RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens features two separate optical systems with a 190-degree field of view to provide outstanding results for 180-degree VR viewing platforms. Through a compatible headset, the L-series optics deliver 3D imagery with natural parallax closely resembling human vision.
The lens has a dust and water-resistant sealing and fluorine coating for rugged durability. And the Canon Dual Fisheye Lens comes with the company’s free Camera Connect app and EOS utility program. Canon’s new Fisheye Lens produces a stunning 8K virtual reality image. It offers a simplified workflow with VR software solutions for conversion and processing. The lens also includes a future firmware update for the upcoming EOS R5 camera. This digitally interchangeable dual fisheye lens is the first of its kind, according to Canon, and is capable of shooting stereoscopic 3D 180° VR imagery to a single image sensor. The company recommends using a compatible VR headset, such as the Oculus Quest 2, to get the best immersive experience.
