Portland-based Campfire Audio has unveiled its most technically ambitious in-ear monitor yet with the introduction of the Chimera, a flagship custom IEM that combines multiple driver technologies into a single, meticulously engineered platform. Rather than relying on a conventional hybrid layout, the Chimera layers nine drivers across four distinct systems to create a broader and more textured sonic presentation.

At its core is a 10mm “True Glass” dynamic driver dedicated to bass and low-mid frequencies, paired with a dual-diaphragm balanced armature for the midrange. Two additional balanced armatures handle upper frequencies, while four electrostatic super-tweeters extend treble response with added air and separation. Campfire further integrates a bone-conduction transducer directly into the shell to reinforce low-frequency texture and physicality without overwhelming the rest of the tuning.

The housing reflects the same level of complexity as the acoustic design. Each shell is CNC-machined from billet magnesium alloy and finished with a PVD coating for durability and reduced weight. The faceplate combines carbon fiber with brass Damascus, creating a distinct pattern unique to every unit and giving the Chimera an appearance that feels closer to bespoke industrial design than consumer electronics.

Internally, Campfire employs a pressure-relief valve and its proprietary “Master Track” tuning damper to stabilize airflow and maintain tonal balance across the driver array. A standard 2-pin connector allows for cable replacement, and the included ALO Audio Valence-6 cable uses a hybrid copper and copper-silver conductor layout intended to preserve detail without introducing unnecessary coloration.

Accessories include a leather carrying case, mesh pouch, cleaning tools, and multiple ear tip options. Every Chimera unit is hand-built in Oregon, underscoring the low-volume, artisan nature of the release.

Priced at $7,500, the Chimera sits firmly in summit-fi territory, aimed at listeners seeking both technical precision and material craftsmanship in equal measure. Preorders begin May 16, with shipping expected in June.
