The art of customization is taking something that already exists and turning it into something that never was. For custom motorcycle builder Dirk Oehlerking, the BMW Motorrad Spirit of Passion is a dream brought to life through experience and devotion to his craft. The Spirit of Passion is the latest collaboration between Kingston Custom Bikes and BMW Motorrad. It started as a 2020 BMW R 18, a classic-inspired cruiser boasting the highest displacement boxer engine in BMW’s history. The BMW R 18 two-cylinder, 1,800 cc engine delivers a satisfying 91 horsepower and road eating 116 lb-ft of torque.
The BMW Motorrad Spirit of Passion rides low with only 15 centimeters of ground clearance. At the front, the hand-built custom body appears to wash over the R 18’s frame like a shadow retreating from the light. The motorcycle sports a radiator grille taken from a 1930s BMW roadster. Chasing the double white lines across the bike to the end is a custom wheel cover that encases the rear wheel by 310 degrees. The Spirit of Passion is not for sale, making it a living daydream in the eyes of BMW Motorrad enthusiasts.
