The wait is finally over. The new generation big daddy BMW M car has arrived, and it’s looking more glorious than ever before.

Unveiled ahead of its official debut at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the new 2018 BMW M5 takes a regular BMW 5-Series and turns the dial up to 11.

The handsome exterior of the 5-Series has been massaged to give the car a sportier stance that communicates its performance aspirations. The M5 distinguishes itself with an M-specific aggressive front bumper with large intakes, aerodynamic side view mirrors, a sculpted aluminum hood, a carbon fiber roof, a rear bumper with an integrated diffuser, and four tailpipes for its sport exhaust system. The M5 will ride on standard 19-inch polished wheels with M-specific tires but customers can order 20-inch wheels with ceramic brakes as well.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with a bespoke M multifunction sport steering wheel with red M Drive Buttons. Merino leather sport seats and exclusive aluminum trim finish out the interior.

Motivating the new M5 is a 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 that produces 592-hp and 553 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, propelling the car to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. The standard M5’s top speed is limited to 155 mph, but can be increased to 189 mph when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Perhaps the biggest news is the addition of all-wheel-drive. The first M5 to be equipped with all-wheel-drive, the MxDrive is the “most emotionally engaging all-wheel-drive system” according to BMW. Available with a host of different settings, the driver can even select the car to be completely rear-wheel drive.
