Considered Sonos’s most versatile speaker yet, the Sonos Roam is set to hit the market on April 20th, with pre-orders now available. The speaker is aptly named as it allows users to “roam” at will by automatically switching from personal home Wi-Fi networks to Bluetooth when out of range of said networks. Labeled the “bring it anywhere” speaker, the Sonos Roam is the smallest and the most portable speaker the brand has ever produced. As for listening options, the Sonos Roam offers over 100 streaming services via the Sonos app, but only when the device is connected to the user’s Wi-Fi. Once users switch to Bluetooth, they can play audio direct only from music service apps like Spotify and Pandora. Furthermore, it offers Alexa and Google Assistant, but only when connected to Wi-Fi. That means at home you can use hands-free voice control to change playback settings, as well as control any smart home devices compatible with your assistant of choice.
Sonos was originally formed to help individuals listen to their music anywhere in their homes, and to get away from the limitations that came with wired speakers but not to sacrifice their rich sound. The Sonos Roam is the latest product offered by the company that fulfills this purpose. Weighing in at less than a pound and measuring 6.61 x 2.44 x 2.36 inches, the Sonos Roam also features the brand’s Trueplay feature which means it will tune audio output to create the best results based on the environment in which the speaker is located.
