Shinola, the Detroit-based brand, makers of everything from fine leather goods to apparel and accessories, is now adding stylish shades to its offerings. The new Shinola Eyewear Collection is everything you would expect from a brand that makes watches that are both bold and subtly sophisticated. The sunglasses come in three style options including the cool, square-lens Mackinac, the aviator-esque Rambler, and the vintage-leaning Bixby, and are each crafted with a hand-polished plant-based cellulose acetate frame. The brand uses this material because it provides a richness, depth, and warmth that is not found in traditional plastic materials.
The sunglasses are, as Shinola puts it, “A little bit Bond, a little bit McQueen, and utterly Shinola.” The Eyewear Collection is crafted in the USA using custom hardware along with German-engineered hinges and CR39 scratch-resistant lenses. For all three styles, Shinola created a signature temple shape, including the German-made riveted barrel hinges, to emulate signature details that appear in the brand’s timepieces. The lenses can even be customized with your prescription. Take your pick from handsome combinations like Havana Amber or the utterly classic Dark Tortoise, a colorway that fits particularly well with the old-school Rambler frames. The sunglasses arrive in an innovative, reusable case that folds flat when not in use, allowing for efficient pocket or handbag storage. Plus, each pair comes with a polishing cloth emblazoned with the signature Shinola lightning bolt.
