Over the past few years Volvo has steadily been improving its image as a squeaky clean and simple Scandinavian heritage brand to a more luxurious and innovative automaker. The Polestar 1 Hybrid Coupe is a major part of this overhaul.
Polestar originally was a tuning arm of Volvo and this is the first vehicle to be rolled out in their new development focus. The same clean lines and functional look of a Volvo concept car are still there, but the Polestar 1 benefits from being an Electric Performance Hybrid. This translates into a more powerful electric drivetrain and a boosted backup internal combustion engine. Its beautiful craftsmanship and perfect proportions serve as the perfect shell for its incredible performance and cutting-edge technology.
The Polestar features a plug-in hybrid powertrain along with a petrol engine that drives the front wheels and electric motors that drive the back wheels. The combined top output from the petrol engine, electric motors, and Integrated starter Generator hit 600 hp with a torque of 1000 Nm.
In a further bid to enhance performance, the Polestar 1 has been beautifully crafted from carbon fiber. The light, slim, and stiff carbon fiber of the roof cross sections allow for both an elegant and functional silhouette. Under it all, a smartly shaped patch of CFRP has been bonded to the underbody to strengthen the traditionally weak interface between the back structure and the middle floor. It’s an innovative new concept Polestar is calling the Dragonfly.
An awe-inspiring panoramic glass roof that stretches from the top of the windscreen to the edge of the rear window gives drivers a view on the world. While inside, handcrafted leather, more carbon fiber details, and a premium Bower and Wilkins sound system round out this brilliant piece of Scandinavian motoring.
