Amongst all the desirable collector cars scheduled to appear at Mecum Monterey 2022, few come equipped with the level of star power as Paul Walker’s 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Even without its ties to a well-known celebrity car enthusiast, this Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 is a legendary performance car surrounded by icon-producing lore. Now, the light yellow 911 is looking for a new caretaker.

The Carrera RS 2.7 is a product of the classic “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” mantra. At the time, recently appointed chairman of the board at Porsche, Ernst Fuhrmann, wanted to cash in on the company’s success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971 with the blistering fast Porsche 917. The in-staff engineer charged with developing the new performance-inspired model was Norbert Singer. Yes, that Singer. The results were a 2.7-liter flat-six engine producing 210-hp fitted to a lightweight 911 Carrera body. The RS 2.7-liter could hit 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 mph.

Initially, Porsche intended to build just 500 examples of the RS 2.7-liter. However, popular demand for the car forced Porsche to extend production to 1,580 vehicles. Paul Walker purchased this car in 2011 sight unseen and was so excited about its delivery that it became a talking point during his Tonight Show appearance with Jay Leno.

The car’s condition is museum quality with major drivetrain components and interior fully rebuilt and restored. Paul Walker’s Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 has a notably high reading on its odometer, showing nearly 60,000 miles – a lot of miles for a rare vintage car. Of course, being a Porsche, 60k doesn’t even scratch the surface of its longevity. The 1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 will roll across Mecum’s auction block during its Monterey event from August 18 – 20th and is predicted to sell for well over a million dollars.
