In case you don’t follow the Chinese Zodiac, every year is represented by a different animal avatar. In total, there are 12 animals in each cycle. At its conclusion, the entire cycle of the zodiac starts over again. This year is commemorated as the Year of the Rat, which also happens to be the very first animal in the Chinese Zodiac. It also marks the beginning of a new decade. In years past, Nike has produced special collections with a theme based on each animal to celebrate the Chinese New Year. However, this year, Nike is taking it to the next level, as not only is it the start of a new zodiac calendar, but the Summer Olympic Games take place in 2020 as well.

The Nike Year of the Rat Chinese New Year Collection will feature both footwear and apparel. The clothing will include patterns similar to that of traditional Chinese paper-cutting while offering bright, bold colors. You’ll be able to get your first real look at the new clothing and shoes later in January.
