Single malt whiskey is considered to be the top echelon of whiskeys. For over 176 years, Macallan has been producing single malt whiskeys from its distillery on the Easter Elchies estate in Craigellachie, Moray, Scotland. Now, Macallan is presenting its latest creation, the Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao single malt whiskey. The limited availability of this single malt is indicative of the care and thoughtfulness with which whiskey maker Polly Logan came to formulate this libation. Over a period of a year, Ms. Logan embarked on a journey to Girona, Spain to immerse herself in the decadent world of renowned pastry chef Jordi Roca and chocolatier Damian Allsop. She then melded the complex flavors of chocolate. The goal? To come up with a single malt whiskey that is a perfect complement to the world’s finest chocolate.
Back in Scotland, Ms. Logan built the whiskey’s flavor inside a unique combination of sherry-seasoned European oak casks and vanilla and sherry seasoned American oak casks. The result is a single malt whiskey that bridges sweetness with the sophisticated essence of 44% whiskey from one of the world’s most prestigious distilleries. Served up in a 100% recycled presentation box made from discarded Cacao pod husks, Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is a whiskey well worth tasting, receiving, and giving.
