Disney and Pixar have launched the teaser trailer for their upcoming action-adventure Toy Story spin-off feature, Lightyear. Angus MacLane (Finding Dory) directs and Chris Evans voices the lead character, Buzz Lightyear. Evans is best known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lightyear will focus entirely on Buzz, the astronaut from the Toy Story universe, and will follow how the young test pilot became a space ranger and hero. While the film will tell “the story of Buzz Lightyear and his adventures to infinity and beyond” no other details beyond this are available.
Although specifics about the film’s plot are still under wraps, Director MacLane did open up about the tone of Buzz’s story, revealing it will be both serious and funny, “but not goofy,” during a recent interview. He goes on to say, “And so this is a film where we find out about Buzz Lightyear and the origins of the Space Rangers and all of the fun things about that, but it’s meant to be this movie, in the best sense of the word. It’s a film that celebrates that feeling you would get watching the sci-fi movies of the late ’70s and early ’80s.” Look for Lightyear to open in theaters on June 17, 2022.
