Hyundai and Uber are 2 of the most ground-breaking names in transportation. The duo has teamed up to change the way people who depend on taxis get around. The Hyundai x Uber Flying Electric Taxi is an all-electric aircraft that uses an innovative design to allow it to take off and land vertically.
Designed to hold 4 passengers and a driver, the Hyundai x Uber Flying Electric Taxi is likely to become autonomous over time. In order to reduce the noise associated with helicopters, the taxi is equipped with numerous small rotors. The aircraft is engineered to reach cruising speeds of up to 180 mph with a range of 60 miles.
Introduced at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the first prototype — which Hyundai will both produce and deploy — is slated for a 2023 delivery. Uber is providing ground transportation connections, airspace support services, and customer interfaces. The company anticipates that they’ll have an air taxi network around the same time.
