Hyundai Motor Group recently announced that it is investing over $16 billion in electrifying its future. Plans for the near future include a new platform by 2025 and the debut of 17 new EVs by 2030 under both Hyundai and Genesis. In addition, Hyundai aims to become a carbon-neutral brand by 2045. It plans on achieving this via a new strategic plan focusing on three key factors: increased production capacity, product competitiveness, and software competency.
Hyundai Motor Group is currently using its E-GMP architecture platform in the new Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60. However, starting in 2025, the platform will be called the Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA) and will underpin passenger and commercial vehicles. The new platform is expected to increase electric range using standardized cell-to-pack battery modules and drivetrains to help streamline development costs.
Amongst the 17 expected new EV models, 11 of the vehicles will come from Hyundai and six from Genesis. These vehicles will include Hyundai sedans, six SUVs (including the Ioniq 7), one light commercial vehicle, and one “new type model.” Genesis plans to launch two electric cars, four SUVs, and become a fully electric car brand by 2030. By 2025, Genesis aims to be the first brand within the group to offer Level 3 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) in the G90, while Hyundai works on preparing an Ioniq 5 robotaxi for 2023. Big plans are afoot for Hyundai Motor Group, and we look forward to seeing its fleet of upcoming new EVs.
