A half-century after the Charger Daytona broke 200 MPH on a NASCAR track for the first time, the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept is ready to break the sound barrier. The EV sound barrier, that is: with the SRT Concept, Dodge is introducing an industry-first exhaust system for an EV. Through the clever use of a tuning chamber and amplifier at the rear of the vehicle – what Dodge calls its new Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust – the SRT Concept can reach an ear-punishing 128 dB. For reference, that’s Hellcat loud.

But the all-wheel drive SRT Concept doesn’t just sound like a Hellcat. Thanks to its 800-volt Banshee architecture, Dodge says its new EV will be faster than a Hellcat V-8-powered car in all key performance measures, ensuring passengers become one with their seatbacks.

The overall look fuses modern and classic while remaining distinctively Dodge, so it’s no surprise the brash automaker nods at this by featuring its old Fratzog logo as an illuminated centerpiece on both the front and rear of its EV line. The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept offers lots of promise – we should find out in a couple of years how well fantasy fares against reality.
