In a quiet community on the volcanic island of Jeju, South Korea, lies a cafe that was built to highlight the landscape through architecture. Designed by Platform_a, their careful consideration of the surrounding landscape of the site and sensitivity to the area’s unique geographical properties shine through this delicately designed building.
The careful selection of local basalt stone and concrete lets the architecture exist in harmony with the site, while the deliberate use of glass on the facade also lets the structure reflect its surrounding to allow nature to take precedence over architecture. Even the materials used in the interior were carefully chosen to reflect the natural characteristics of the site, including the distressed wood used in the furniture.
