Dwayne Johnson has now joined the ranks of actors who have taken on the roles of superheroes. The official trailer for Black Adam was just released today and it reveals The Rock’s transformation into Black Adam, a former slave and an ancient god bestowed with mighty powers. The Shazam series spin-off focuses on the origins of this anti-hero from DC Comics. “I was a slave until I died. Then I was reborn a god. My son sacrificed his life to save me. Now, I kneel before no one,” Black Adam says in the trailer. When he is told that “heroes don’t kill people,” Black Adam has a simple response. “Well, I do.” The trailer reveals that, in the modern-day, he is somehow freed from a tomb and ready to “unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”
Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and also stars Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. The film will open in theaters internationally on October 19th and in the U.S. on October 21st.
