Technically speaking, the gaming computer debuted in the 1950s with the Nimrod. But the gaming PC in the modern sense really started around the mid-1990s with computers like the original Alienware, a performance-oriented rig designed specifically to run games like DOOM and Diablo at peak quality. Games got more demanding, the hardware got more powerful, and even the casing got more stylish. Today, a gaming computer is like a muscle car that fits on a desk. Yeah, performance comes first, but bragging rights are a close second.

The starring feature of the 2021 Alienware Aurora Gaming PC, debuting for the brand’s 25 year anniversary,  comes down to the physical design. It’s all about airflow. The internal chassis is fifty percent bigger, allowing for more space for cables and components for less clutter, plus four 120mm fans and liquid cooling options. This is reported to produce a five percent improvement in graphics performance, plus, marathon gaming sessions at top settings without fear of burning your graphics card out. The Alienware Aurora Gaming PC is claimed to run sixteen percent quieter when idle, and fifteen percent quieter when overclocking. And yes, it looks like a spaceship, with a clear side panel and a soothing interior blue glow. It’s everything a gamer wants from Alienware, a perfect synthesis of form and function.
