Adidas has rebuilt its marathon racer around a different kind of carbon structure. The Adizero Adios Pro 5 replaces the familiar ENERGYRODS of the previous generation with ENERGYRIM, a carbon-infused perimeter designed to leave more room directly underfoot for Lightstrike Pro foam.

The result is a claimed nine percent increase in energy return while bringing a men’s UK 8.5 sample down to an average 177 grams. Stack height measures 39mm at the heel and 35mm at the forefoot for a 4mm drop.

A redesigned LIGHTLOCK 2.0 upper adds targeted ventilation and internal support bands, while the outsole combines data-driven LIGHTTRAXION geometry with Continental rubber for grip without unnecessary coverage. Adidas says more than 25 elite athletes in Kenya, Ethiopia, and the U.S. contributed to development.

That makes the fifth-generation shoe more than a color-and-upper refresh. It changes the carbon architecture at the heart of a racing platform previously seen in collaborations such as the Adizero x Mercedes-AMG collection.

The Adios Pro range lists the new model at $275.
