Today, Apple introduced the highly anticipated, newly designed iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. With their flat-edged design, 5G support, new colors, a faster A14 Bionic chip, dual-lens rear camera system, and more, these are smartphones to be reckoned with. The only difference between the Pro and Pro Max is the screen size — the Pro is 6.1-inches and the Pro Max is 6.7-inches. Everything from the display technology to the ability to support mmWave 5G stays the same.
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, “Every decade there’s a new generation of technology that provides a step change in what we can do with our iPhones. This is a huge moment for all of us.” In its release, Apple heavily touted the phones’ 5G support, though it noted that peak speeds of up to 4Gbps will vary by region and carrier. With the new models being equipped with the A14 Bionic chip, which uses 5nm technology, Apple claims it’s faster than the chip found in any competing phone, which will prove beneficial for playing video games, among other functions. This was touted specifically in regards to League of Legends: Wild Rift, an iOS version of the hit MOBA.
As for the camera, both models feature a dual camera with an ultrawide 120-degree field of view in the top camera. The bottom one is a wide camera with a seven-element lens and 26mm focal length. Both rear cameras and the front camera will support Night mode, allowing for better low-light picture-taking. Both models are designed with an aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure. Combined with the Ceramic Shield front cover, which goes beyond glass by adding a new high temperature crystallization step that grows nano-ceramic crystals within the glass matrix, the drop performance is increased by 4x. Both the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max models also introduce MagSafe, offering high-powered wireless charging and an all-new ecosystem of accessories that easily attach to iPhone. Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro Max model begins Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23. The iPhone 12 Pro will be available for pre-order beginning Friday, November 6, and in stores beginning Friday, November 13.
