The electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck has finally been unveiled! General Motors now has three dogs entering the new electric truck war: GMC Sierra EV, Hummer EV, and Silverado EV. Besides sharing a name, this new Silverado has nothing in common with its gasoline counterpart. Press photos showcase the top-of-the-line RST variant of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV with an MSRP of over $100k. Nevertheless, this is the fully loaded spec. Chevrolet claims the starting price for the lower trim levels will be more affordable with the WT (Work Truck) trim starting at $40k.

Here are the confirmed specs on the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. It uses two electric motors and a 200-kWh battery pack. The Silverado EV WT claims a rated output of 510-hp and 615 lb.-ft of torque. The higher trim Silverado EV RST boasts a drive mode called “Wide Open Watts”, which cranks up performance to 664-hp and 780 lb.-ft of torque. Under this drive mode, the Silverado EV can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.5-seconds, according to Chevrolet. Towing is rated at 10,000 pounds for the RST and 8,000 for the WT, although Chevrolet says a future variant of the electric pickup will have a towing capacity of 20,000 pounds. Lastly, the battery range is rated at 400 miles and can be charged at 800-volts and 350-kW for fast charging. Of course, the real-world range will probably bring different figures once these trucks are put to work.

One helpful feature on Chevrolet’s new electric pickup truck is the MultiFlex Midgate. This allows users to extend the truck’s bed by lowering the wall separating the bed from the cab into a 60/40 split. In addition, the rear glass can be removed and stored in a folding section, thus further increasing the truck bed’s length to over 10-feet with the tailgate down. Unfortunately, press photos do not reveal this, but Chevrolet has stated that the Silverado EV features a tonneau cover to provide weatherproofing. Max payload is rated at 1,200 pounds for the WT and 1,300 pounds for the RST.

Moreover, the most significant benefit of an electric pickup truck is the added storage space under the hood. The Silverado EV has room in its frunk (front trunk) to carry up to three large suitcases. The interior shows a classic styled column-mounted shifter which clears the center console for additional storage space. The RST dashboard houses a giant 17-inch center screen with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster for the driver, while the WT gets an 11-inch center screen with an eight-inch digital gauge. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist will be standard on higher trim levels of the Silverado EV. Other standard features on the Silverado EV RST are air springs that can raise or lower the truck’s ride height by up to two inches. All trim levels of the Silverado EV will feature four-wheel-steering as standard and offer up to 10 sockets and a 240-volt outlet to supply power to electric equipment. Chevrolet is currently accepting reservations for the 2024 Silverado EV. Production is set to begin during the second quarter of 2023. The first models to roll off the assembly line will be WT spec intended for fleets, and RST will become available in the fall of 2023.
