It’s not what’s under the hood that makes the 2022 Porsche 911 ‘Sally Special’ so … er, special. Sure, its standard Carrera GTS loadout (a 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six with 473 horsepower) will have Sally at 60 mph in just under four seconds, but who cares about that when there’s a button that activates “Kachow! Mode”?
The best modifications to this seven-speed Porsche 911 GTS don’t have anything to do with performance or styling, but rather are fun callbacks to its source material, Pixar’s 2005 hit Cars. The movie’s team worked closely with Porsche to create this oh-so-limited edition, and their distinctive style and humor are all over it.
Take, for instance, Sally’s pinstripe tattoo – a cheeky Easter egg that’s hidden until the rear spoiler is raised. Another nice touch is the paint itself, a distinct color fittingly called Sally Blue Metallic, which had to be hand-applied. Porsche carried the color throughout the Special’s interior trim pieces, pairing it with Chalk and Speed Blue to pleasant effect. “Sally Carrera” badges and “Cars” logos are visible throughout the vehicle, including on the finely-detailed tire valve caps. Backlit Sally Special doorsill guards complete the look.
RM Sotheby’s will auction the car during the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours D’ Elegance, with the auction being held at the Monterey Conference Center on August 20. Two charities, Girls Inc. and USA for UNHCR, will benefit from the auction’s proceeds. The auction package includes a second set of wheels in the ‘Carrera Exclusive’ design – mounted on a custom-made rack – intended for track use, should the owner wish to fully exploit the performance of the car. Supporting this is an array of smaller, items created during the development of the 911 Sally Special. These include a bespoke indoor car cover made by Porsche Tequipment, the original color molds used to finalize the paint for the car, the show plates for the car, a very special book charting the design and development of the car with images of its construction and original sketches by Porsche designer Suichi Yamashita, and Pixar’s Cars Production Designer Bob Pauley. As with many elements of the project, only one book will be made.
