Breaking news from Maranello, Italy is the official unveiling of the 2022 Ferrari 296 GTB, which will replace the mid-engine F8 Tributo. This new prancing horse can giddy-up using an all-new twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid assisted engine producing an eye-widening 818-horsepower and 545 lb.-ft of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sends all that power to the rear wheels. Critics are already calling the 296 GTB the future of Ferrari.

The naming process of Ferrari’s latest supercar is a combination of the engine’s displacement (2,992-cc) with the number of cylinders, hence 296. As for the GTB (Gran Turismo Berlinetta) it is, according to Ferrari, meant to “underscore this new engine’s epoch changing importance to Maranello.” The engine’s total performance is brought together by the V6’s 654-hp and a 164-hp electric motor derived from Ferrari’s F1 program. It is built on an all-new aluminum block and aluminum cylinder heads. The turbochargers have been redesigned to spin at 180,000-rpm. Ferrari nicknamed this V6 engine the “piccolo V12” during development. Thanks to its symmetrical firing order and short exhaust, this V6 makes the hair-standing noise you want from an 800-hp Ferrari.

All this performance results in a zero to 60 time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of over 205 mph. The 2022 Ferrari 296 GTB exterior design is as smooth as a shark’s fin. Sleek like untouched ice cream and a sinister smile that gives the Ferrari a look of self-awareness — this car knows it’s fast. The interior takes heavy inspiration from its V8 Ferrari siblings. Customers can option their new 2022 Ferrari 296 GTB with the Assetto Fiorano package, like the SF90 Stradale. It includes a Lexan rear windscreen, lightweight door panels, upgraded shocks, and shaves 26 pounds using carbon fiber trim pieces.

Ferrari has not released any details on when the Ferrari 296 GTB will be available or pricing. However, we can assume it will be late 2021 or early 2022, and the starting price will consist of six figures with the number two on point.
