Porsche Design celebrates its 50th anniversary with a one-of-a-kind vintage 911 restoration. This 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa has been restored and christened with 50th Anniversary exclusivity. Now, RM Sotheby’s is preparing to auction it off along with a matching custom Chronograph 1 timepiece between November 29th – December 14th.
Porsche Classic and Porsche Design worked together to restore a 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa into a rolling tribute to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The original drivetrain and chassis have been upgraded to period-correct S-edition specification with fuel injected producing 187 horsepower.
In honor of F. A. Porsche’s personal taste in cars, the 911 S 2.4 Targa is painted in solid black with platinum (silk gloss) accents. Moreover, the interior features Sport-Tex fabric with a checkered pattern in Black/Cool Grey. In addition, the dashboard displays an “Edition 50 Years Porsche Design” emblem. When this 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa goes up for auction, the new owner will receive a custom watch to match the car.
The Chronograph 1 – 911 S 2.4 Targa is based on the legendary Porsche Design Chronograph I, also dating from the year in which Porsche Design was founded. This unique piece was developed especially for the auction at Sotheby’s on the basis of the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition. The chronograph features a unique winding rotor on the back that corresponds to the historic Fuschsfelge wheel of a Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa. It’s a collector’s item accessory for a collector’s car built to honor a half-century of bespoke quality and performance.
Porsche Designs also celebrates its 50th year anniversary with the Limited Edition 50Y Sunglass Capsule Collection.
