Rooted in history, the new Mathey-Tissot x Massena LAB Type XX Tribute Chronographs pays homage to the initial collaboration between Breguet and Mathey-Tissot from the 1950s and 60s. Initially tasked with designing and manufacturing a new watch for the French Ministry of Defense, Breguet relied heavily on Mathey-Tissot to produce and distribute 2,000 Type 20 chronographs for pilots. Originally designed with a large black dial, 12-hour rotation bezel, and innovative flyback function, today’s modern interpretation of the classic watch upholds the same style and functionality.
The just-launched Mathey-Tissot and Massena LAB Type XX Tribute Chronographs include the limited edition Mathey-Tissot x Massena LAB Type XX Tribute Chronograph and the limited edition Mathey-Tissot x Massena LAB Type XX Flyback Chronograph. The cases are identical, measuring 38.5mm across with a mix of brushed and polished finishing. The flyback version has a matte black dial with oversized Arabic numerals in what Massena LAB describes as a coffee colored shade of brown. The standard tribute chronograph without the flyback functionality boasts a warm brown dial. Both watches feature a “Big Eye” minute register at the 3:00 position.
The Mathey-Tissot x Massena LAB Type XX Tribute Chronograph is powered by a manual Sellita caliber SW511 M BH b and the watch features a 63-hour power reserve and 23 jewels. The Type XX Flyback Chronograph is powered by Arola caliber 7750 FlyB with a power reserve of 48 hours, and 29 jewels. Both watches come with a stunning brown suede calfskin bracelet. The Tribute Chronograph is limited to only 99 pieces. The first 50 watches in the collection are available for immediate shipment, while the remaining 49 will ship in mid-December. The Flyback Chronograph is limited to 25 pieces and is available immediately.
