YETI has built its reputation on rugged coolers designed for serious outdoor use, but not every outing requires a large, expedition-ready ice chest. The new Roadie 8 applies the same design philosophy to a considerably smaller format, creating a compact hard cooler aimed at day trips, golf outings, boating excursions, and everyday adventures.

As the smallest hard cooler in YETI’s lineup, the Roadie 8 measures 17.8 inches long and weighs just 7.9 pounds. Despite its compact footprint, it can accommodate up to 12 cans or roughly nine pounds of ice. The cooler utilizes YETI’s pressure-injected PermaFrost insulation, a feature borrowed from its larger models, to maximize ice retention and maintain cold temperatures throughout the day.

The Roadie 8 has been designed with portability in mind. A single QuickLatch mechanism allows one-handed access, while the integrated SmallHaul handle makes it easy to carry from a vehicle to a campsite, dock, or golf cart. Tie-down slots molded into the body allow the cooler to be secured during transport, and non-slip feet help keep it stable on wet or uneven surfaces.

Like many YETI products, the Roadie 8 favors durability over unnecessary complexity. Thick rotomolded-style construction, heavy-duty hinges, and a simplified latch system suggest the cooler is built to withstand years of use. One notable omission is a dedicated drain plug, a compromise that helps maintain the cooler’s compact dimensions but requires users to manually empty melted ice.

Priced at $165, the Roadie 8 occupies an interesting position within YETI’s catalog. It delivers much of the performance and build quality associated with the brand’s larger coolers while remaining small enough to fit environments where space is limited.

For those who spend more time on the golf course, at a tailgate, or on the water than deep in the backcountry, the Roadie 8 may prove to be one of YETI’s most practical offerings yet.
