You’ve likely heard of the term “glamping” before. That is, camping glamorously – in style even, if you will. With its new California XXL Concept, Volkswagen has taken glamping to new heights, specifically as it comes to improving and expanding on the California camper vehicle model.
The extensive list of features in the VW California XXL Concept is as follows: It has a panoramic roof for star gazing. It offers an extended back section to permit a sleeping bed. There’s a loft-like alcove to accommodate other sleeping arrangements. Underfloor heating, a workspace, a wet room and mobile app interaction round out the vehicle. A sink, stove, two refrigerators and digital projector are included. It features electrical outlets and USB ports.
And that’s just the camping part. The VW California XXL Concept features a Euro 6 turbodiesel engine under its hood, which allows you to take it anywhere off the beaten path that you’d like. And a pneumatic suspension makes the ride – wherever it is that you’re going – smooth and comfortable.
The VW California XXL Concept was officially released at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany, in August. As it’s just a concept vehicle, there’s no official word yet from Volkswagen on if it will enter production. But if you’re into glamorous camping and don’t quite want something as big as an RV to haul around, the California XXL is something to keep your eye on.
