Timex has built an ’80s reissue without the inconvenience of an actual source model. The Retroware Digital takes a less literal route, borrowing the proportions and visual language of vintage digital sport watches without reviving a named archival model.
Its matte resin case measures a substantial 46 mm across, although an 11 mm thickness, 50 mm lug-to-lug span, and lightweight construction keep the profile relatively flat. A matching 20 mm resin strap uses quick-release spring bars for tool-free changes, while an acrylic crystal reinforces the period character. Water resistance is rated to 50 meters, making the watch suitable for short swims, provided its buttons remain untouched underwater.
The oversized LCD provides the real distinction. Curved numerals fill the rounded display, while two prominent pushers above the screen emphasize its stopwatch controls. Beyond the unconventional presentation, the quartz module offers a chronograph with 75-lap memory, countdown and interval timers, dual time zones, automatic calendar functions, three configurable alarms, and Timex’s Indiglo backlight.
As detailed in the Retroware collection, the gray-green version combines a reverse LCD with gold-tone trim, while the blue model uses a conventional positive display. The approach is more freely interpreted than Timex’s literal digital reissues, giving the watch a familiar period identity without tying it to one predecessor.
