Invented over 300 years ago in England, there are few knives that have a more storied history and more staying power than the Barlow Knife. It is what is thought of when the term “folding or pocket knife ” is used. Former Presidents Lincoln and Washington wouldn’t leave home without their Barlows, and Mark Twain even referenced the knife in two of his iconic works identifying it as a necessary tool.
The James Brand is now launching its own version of the heralded Barlow Knife, with its characteristic teardrop-shaped handle and long bolster, with The Wayland. The James Brand Wayland pocket knife is just under seven inches and its size and shape make it perfectly suited as an ideal EDC tool. The Wayland is an incredibly handy tool to take on any outdoor adventure or just to keep close at hand throughout the day. In addition to being extremely functional, the James Brand also addressed the knife’s longevity and its aesthetics by leveraging some of the brand’s favorite materials like titanium and rosewood to design the Wayland. While this latest offering has a contemporary look, it also exudes a clear lineage to the original Barlow concept.
