Tesla Tequila is a 750ml bottle of 40% alcohol made by California based distillery, Nosotros Tequila. The liquor is 100% agave tequila that’s been aged in French oak barrels and comes in a glass bottle shaped like a lightning bolt, with a retail price high enough to make one reconsider mixing it with supermarket grapefruit soda.
This is a one-time product release that came out of an April Fool’s tweet back in 2018 when Elon Musk teased the idea of creating a product called “Teslaquila.” It was a fun idea that quickly ran into legal trouble because, as it turns out, the word “Tequila” is trademarked — a fact that was brought to Tesla’s attention by Mexico’s Tequila Regulatory Council. As a result, the product was renamed Tesla Tequila.
Even though the line has officially sold out, Business Insider reports that people who have ordered a bottle or two are already taking bids trying to flip it for a profit. Whether you’ve ordered a bottle of this charged liquor directly from Tesla or are planning on buying off a scalper, you’re going to have to wait. Tesla doesn’t plan on shipping Tesla Tequila until December.
