For generations, Star Wars has captivated audiences worldwide. Since paving the way for the sci-fi genre, the franchise has arguably become the most successful in the history of the genre. From the duality between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader embodying the struggle between good and evil to awesome special effects, the films have offered something for everyone.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the next chapter in this legacy. Exclusive footage debuted during D23’s Walt Disney Studios panel before the trailer above was officially released to an eagerly anticipating public. The new trilogy’s core cast of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran reprise their starring roles in Episode IX. Notably, fans loyal to the franchise’s original trilogy were pleasantly surprised to see the return of Lando Calrissian, a space cowboy who rivals the charm of Han Solo.
However, the real take away from the trailer was that the film will center on the future the Skywalker saga. Rey and Kylo Ren crossing lightsabers, with waves crashing down upon them as they unleashed each blow, will surely be the key moment in determining the outcome of the film. The trailer’s closing shot of a Dark Rey, clad in Sith lord gear while wielding a dual edged red lightsaber is the most jaw dropping moment of all, leaving fans wondering if the savior of the Jedi order will ultimately be their undoing.
With that looming question left on the minds of fans in the wake of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker D23 Trailer, their answers will be revealed when the film is released on December 20, 2019.
