In 1900, Rolls-Royce founder Charles Royce was quoted as saying, “The electric car is perfectly noiseless and clean.” Fast forward to 2021, when Rolls-Royce teased the world with renderings of its first all-electric model. Now, Rolls-Royce has unveiled the vehicle in its entirety, the Rolls-Royce Spectre. Rolls-Royce refers to this new model as the world’s first ultra-luxury EV super coupe.
The Spectre represents more than adding another EV to the market. It’s the start of a new generation for Rolls-Royce. The company has stated that the Spectre is the most powerful model yet, and the successor to the flagship Phantom coupe.
The new Rolls-Royce Spectre stays true to the brand’s signature design language with a vertical square grille that is illuminated and wider than any previous Rolls-Royce. At the top of the grille is the Spirit of Ecstasy. However, the iconic hood ornament stands a little lower on the Specter. According to Rolls-Royce, this streamlined look represents “an intrinsic extension of her grace.”
Rolls-Royce did not release specifics on the Spectre’s battery pack but aims for an EPA-estimated range of up to 260 miles. In addition, power output is rated at 577 hp and 664 lb.-ft of torque, which is enough to push the heavy coupe from zero to 60 in 4.4-seconds. The Rolls-Royce Spectre shares the same platform as the Phantom, but its chassis is 30 percent stiffer.
Pricing on the Rolls-Royce Spectre was not announced during the unveiling. However, Rolls-Royce confirmed the price point would be between the Cullinan and Phantom. Needless to say, the world’s first ultra-luxury coupe won’t come cheap – nor should it. It is anticipated that the Spectre will be available in the fourth quarter of 2023.
