It’s no secret that Robert Downey Jr. likes cars. In recent years, Downey has commissioned SpeedKore to build several custom cars for him. One was a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302, the other a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro he gifted to Marvel co-star Chris Evans. These are restomod muscle cars, classic body lines stuffed with modern technology. The only vintage thing left on these cars is the year on the title. Now, SpeedKore has created another vehicle for Robert Downey Jr., and this time it’s a heavily modified German classic.
Robert Downey Jr.’s 1974 BMW 3.0 CS has been given the full SpeedKore treatment. Carbon fiber bumpers and rockers, custom paint, forged wheels, and custom rear spoiler are only the beginning. Inside, the interior is an Italian-inspired, coffee-colored leather with “pebble weave” inserts. The instrument clusters hold retro-inspired gauges and a hidden infotainment system tucked in the dashboard. The trunk uses a Lamborghini-inspired grab handle with interior upholstery and includes a leather-wrapped Yeti cooler. Performance figures have not been disclosed, but the naturally aspirated straight-six engine is said to be sourced from a BMW E34 M5. The car uses a four-speed automatic transmission and a Brembo braking system. This car was not designed to be a crowd favorite or earn praise from BMW loyalists. It was built on preference.
