Lancia 037 Stradale

Lancia 037 Stradale

The 80’s and 90’s were filled with legendary homologation cars that were direct descendants of racing cars. With most vehicles designed like they were drawn with an Etch A Sketch, these street-legal racing cars were flamboyantly styled like they were wearing shoulder pads while offering a raw and visceral driving experience that are no longer available on modern vehicles.

Although the Lancia Stratos has stollen our hearts since its inception, thanks to its achingly beautiful Bertone design and the racing pedigree, its successor is still the unsung hero for many motorsport enthusiasts. The Lancia 037 Stradale is the road going version of the very last rear-wheel drive car to win the WRC in 1983. With only 20,500 miles on the clock, a pristine example from 1982 will be going under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s this Saturday. Expected to fetch around €340,000, the lucky winner will be a proud owner of one of the 207 homologated examples and a piece of motorsport history.
