Thousands of years ago, the world’s first measurement tool — the Cubit ruler — helped ancient civilizations build historic wonders such as the Great Pyramids.

In tribute to this ancient tool, Dave and Calvin Laituri have taken to Kickstarter to fund a modern interpretation of this timeless measurement tool. The end result is the Qbit ruler, which takes clear inspirations from the rod-like form of the original Cubit ruler created millennia ago.

The new Qbit can be turned with precision thanks to a Swiss CNC lathe before it is ultimately machined with your preference of either Metric or Standard measuring scales. The Qbit also comes in either Brass or Stainless Steel, making the Qbit a modern reflection of both your measurement and design preferences.

Laser-etched graphics put the finishing touches on this unique tool, making it a great everyday carry option for measuring small things. The Qbit comes in two sizes, ranging from keychain-friendly all the way to a 6″ home version. Either way, the slim profile of the Qbit is both attractive and easy to take on the go or store at home for use when needed.

The father and son duo have already exceeded their $1,000 funding goal, so be sure to check out the Kickstarter and back the project if you are interested in this modern, inventive take on the Cubit ruler.
