‘POKÉMON Detective Pikachu’ Official Trailer

The live action Pokémon movie was bound to happen, sooner or later. And here it is.

Ever since we got Pokémon Go, this was bound to happen. To be fair, we think it’s gonna be better than many of us imagined.

Hopefully the AR-nature of Pokemon Go prepared you years ahead for the shock you’re about to have upon viewing the trailer for the live-action movie POKÉMON Detective Pikachu. It’s based in a Pokémon universe and a wise-cracking Pikachu is helping the protagonist solve a mystery involving his missing father.

OK, that sounds fine, but if you’re a fan of the series or played some type of Pokémon game growing up, you probably have some question marks over your head right now. Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) as the voice of Pikachu? And the first ever live action Pokémon movie is based on not the main storyline (7 generations and counting) but an obscure side game called Detective Pikachu?

Well, POKÉMON Detective Pikachu is helmed by a talented crew, including director Rob Letterman (Monsters Vs. Aliens), two-time Oscar nominated director of photography John Mathieson (Gladiator), Oscar-winning editor Mark Sanger (Gravity), and visual effects by teams that worked on Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Seriously, this could work.
