Italian homeware brand Alessi has taken a leap into the world of furniture, launching the Poêle Collection designed by Philippe Starck. The collection was unveiled at Milan Design Week’s Ars Metallica exhibition and features a chair, a high stool, a low stool, and a coat stand. Alessi is known for its kitchen products like espresso makers and cutlery, but the Poêle Collection marks the brand’s entry into the furniture market.

Alessi president Alberto Alessi said the launch could mark a new direction for the brand, which has only experimented with furniture occasionally in the past. He revealed that the brand had been planning a furniture collaboration with Starck since the early 2000s. The Poêle Collection treads new ground by incorporating the same manufacturing processes that Alessi uses to make its stainless-steel cookware.

The centerpiece of the collection is the Poêle Chair, which features a gently curved stainless-steel seat with a mirror-polished finish. This sits over a brown-dyed beech wood frame. The design of the chair was initially treated as a joke, but Starck was able to adapt existing high technology to create the collection.

The Poêle Collection is a fusion of humor and technology, as Starck put it. It is also an example of the brand’s innovation and willingness to explore new markets. The collection is not only visually stunning but also functional, with its sturdy stainless-steel seat and brown-dyed beech wood frame, making it a worthwhile addition to any home.
