Digital photography has finally caught up with astronomers: you can now capture craters on the surface of the moon with your camera. Nikon just debuted a 16MP, 1/2.3 inch sensor point-and-shoot that blows other zoom lenses out of the water. If you like your lenses big, the Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Extreme Zoom boasts an unprecedented 125x optical zoom. For reference, the previous record-holder for longest optical zoom was the P900, and its 83x optical zoom is still leaps and bounds greater than most DSLR telephoto lenses that money can buy.
Of course, the P1000 is more than just its super-sized 3000mm zoom lens. It also shoots video in 4K Ultra HD, includes multiple creative modes to make shooting easier, and shoots in RAW and time-lapse mode. All of this makes it even more exciting to capture everything from the craters on the moon to the animals on faraway mountains, and more.
